"LU" Luman Riggs 1920-2021

Luman “Lu” Riggs went home to be with the Lord on November 28, 2021 at the age of 101. He was born in Redwood Valley on June 12, 1920 to Luman C. Riggs and Gladys Gantz Riggs. When he was 15 he joined the CCCS and did two terms in the Tennant/bray area and Lassen County. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army serving in the 332d Engineer Battalion in Europe. In December of 1944, he was injured while building a railroad bridge in Germany. After he was discharged, he returned home to Mendocino County. In 1946, he married the love of his life, Annie L. Page. They were married 67 years at the time of her passing in 2013. Lu worked at various mills throughout Mendocino County and even had his own log truck for a while. When the mill at Calpella burned, he took a job at Mcclellan AFB in Sacramento. In 1982, he retired from Mcclellan AFB as a crane operator and moved back to Willits. In 1984, he went to work for MTA where he was known as “Lightnin’ Lu”. Lu has resided with his daughter and son-in-law for the past 8 years in Chiloquin, OR. Lu loved to hunt, fish and garden. He was always willing to lend a hand and was one who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. All who met him loved him. Mack, Yolanda Baim, Jerry Lienau, Alice Smith and brother Dennis Riggs. He is survived by his son Brian Riggs and wife Tracie, daughter Terry Closser and husband Lee, granddaugh­ters Amie Riggs and Addie Riggs, grandson Christophe­r Closser and wife Hope, and great grandsons Jeremy Closser and wife Taylor and Collin Closser along with several nieces and nephews. He was a good husband, father, father-in law, grandfathe­r, great grandfathe­r and uncle. He will truly be missed. Graveside services will be held at the Willits Cemetery on December 13th at 12:00. Donations can be made to Toys for Tots or Disabled American Veterans.
