HSMC RESUMES QUARTERLY MEETINGS

First `in person' event in several years held in Ukiah

-

The Historical Society of Mendocino County (HSMC) recently held its first “in person” quarterly luncheon meeting in several years at the First Presbyterian Church Social Hall in Ukiah. The luncheon was catered by Schat's Bakery.

Over 60 members attended in spite of the poor weather conditions. During the program members heard from Marvin Talso, the Board of Directors president; he introduced the present board members, volunteers and staff who were in the audience.

Talso was followed by Executive Director Tim Buckner, who showed a 10-minute video produced by archivist Alyssa Ballard.

The video presentation gave an overview of the history of the society, what has been accomplished in the last several years and what future projects will be undertaken.

At this point in the program the group was divided into two groups. The first group walked across the street to tour the Held-poage memorial home as well as the Toney Archival building.

Meanwhile the second group heard reports from various board committees, including Treasurer Phil Gary, Maribelle Anderson of the publicity and fundraising group and Dave Poma on Pavilion construction. The attendees were provided with a list of projects that they might be interested in volunteering for and/or donating towards.

All during this time the HSMC Bookstore was open for purchases of T-shirts, books, pamphlets and wine glasses all discounted 10 percent to members.

Future meetings will be held in Covelo, the South Coast and Fort Bragg. Further information can be found on the HSMC website (mendocinocountyhistory.org) by email info@mendocinocountyhistory.org or by telephone at 707-462-6969.

The event committee was Carre Brown, Maribelle Anderson, Roberta Hurt and Tim Buckner.
