Man ordered committed to Department of State Hospitals

A Cobb man charged with attempted murder and torture for the beating of his father recently appeared remotely for a hearing at the Lake County Superior Court.

Peter Guerrero, 29, was in custody for a hearing regarding the report from CONREP.

CONREP (Conditional Release Program) is the Department of State Hospitals statewide system of community based services that treats patients who have been committed for any of the following — not guilty by reason of insanity, incompetent to stand trial, mentally disordered offenders and some parolees who have been released to outpatient status.

The CONREP report recommended the defendant be placed in a locked facility and committed to the Department of State Hospitals.

The matter has been set for a review hearing for the status of admission to hospital on June 13, 2023.

The defendant has been ordered to appear if he has not been transported yet.

The defendant has been charged with attempted murder, causing permanent disability, torture, mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm (great bodily injury likely) and battery with serious bodily injury.

The charges stem from an incident in March when Clearlake Police Officers were dispatched to Walmart in Clearlake regarding reports of a male assaulting another male with a hammer outside of the garden department.

Upon arrival officers located a victim suffering from injuries consistent with being assaulted by a blunt object. Medical aid was performed by officers until medical personnel arrived at the scene, transporting the victim to Adventist Health emergency room.

The victim was later transferred to a hospital outside of Lake County.

The suspect was positively identified as Peter Guerrero of Cobb and he was taken into custody.

According to the investigation the victim was approaching Walmart and was attacked from behind by the suspect. The suspect hit the victim, resulting in the victim falling to the ground as the suspect continued to strike the victim with a hammer.

The victim is the father of the suspect.

Allegedly the suspect revealed that his intention was to kill his father in public.

The defendant remains in custody at the Lake County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
