Volunteer Opportunities

The Community Care Management Corporation:

(CCMC) Board of Directors is soliciting applications for new volunteer board members and are seeking experienced and energetic individuals with professional knowledge in the areas of: non-profit management, healthcare, social work, behavioral health, finances, law, policy making, and/or fundraising. Board members must live within our three service counties.ccmc’s Board of Directors is currently composed of 7 members who are professionals of various disciplines, and who represent Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma Counties. The Board of Directors meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Community Care’s main office, located at 301 S. State St. in Ukiah.

The Historical Society of Mendocino County: is seeking volunteers to become docents and/or data entry workers at the Society’s Archive and Held Poage Memorial Home at 100 S. Dora St., Ukiah. Project Sanctuary: is looking for volunteers to help the crisis line. Project Sanctuary welcomes all individuals over 18who are interested in becoming a certified volunteer crisis counselor.

Training is provided free of charge in exchange for a one-year commitment to serve on the crisis line two nights a month. The 80-hour training focuses on sexual assault and domestic violence topics. State certification as a sexual assault/domestic violence crisis counselor is provided upon successful completion of the 80-hour training and clearance with the Department of Justice fingerprinting. The next training begins March 2023 and is once a week in the evening and two Saturday classes with completion in June. For more information or to sign up, contact the Ukiah office at 707-462-9196. Hospice of Ukiah: is building its Respite Volunteer Program. This is a chance to share your love and care. You give caregivers a break but also share your friendship with a patient. People become isolated when they face death or have a longterm illness. Be the hand they hold and the friend who listens. Hospice will train you to take on this deep but rewarding challenge. Classroom Volunteers Needed:

Looking for over 55 to volunteer in the Foster Grandparent program. Tento 30 hours per week to volunteer in schools in Ukiah, Willits and Fort Bragg. For more information, call 707462-1959.

Farmers Market EBT Match:

The Ukiah Farmers Market, on Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon, and Willits Farmers Market, on Thursdays 3 to 5 p.m., are looking for volunteers to assist with the Market Match booth. Volunteers would swipe EBT cards, count out tokens which increase EBT credits when spent at the market, explain how to use Market Match, and other miscellaneous tasks as needed. NCO Volunteer Network:

NCO Volunteer Network places volunteers in rewarding positions throughout Mendocino and Lake Counties. Currently volunteers are needed at animal shelters, libraries, museums, community gardens, with the CHP, as drivers with Meals on Wheels and Cancer Resource Centers, at our senior centers in a variety of positions, helping with food prep and service to the homeless, companions for seniors, with Native

American youth, Ukiah Valley Trail Group, as well as in disaster services. Those 55-plus can also become a Foster Grandparent and be a help to kids in schools. You choose where you want to volunteer. The Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County:

Welcomes volunteers at its offices in Ukiah and Fort Bragg. Especially needed are volunteer drivers, willing to drive cancer patients to medical appointments. Must have safe, insured vehicle and clean driving record. Also need host/hostesses for resource center to welcome clients, answer phones, do odd jobs and office tasks. The California Highway Patrol office in Ukiah:

needs volunteers in its RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) with a wide variety of duties offered. Assorted administrative assistance is needed in the office such as helping with fingerprinting as well as positions in the field such as in the school safety program, providing traffic control at collision scenes and transporting vehicles. Hospice of Ukiah is seeking volunteers to:

help in our Thrift & Gift Store at 401 S. State St. We have a large store, which takes a large crew to keep it well stocked with all the interesting items that are donated daily. Currently, we are closed on Mondays and we are hoping to reopen six days a week. The ‘Thrift’ is our major source of revenue, providing the money needed to continue our mission of mercy — helping people to live with comfort and die with dignity. If you can spare a few hours a week, call Marlena at 707-462-3141 to see how you can help. Mendocino Family and Youth Services: is looking for volunteers to be on its board. MFYS primarily supports The Youth Project through fundraising efforts such as the Annual Youth Art Show, Jim Levine Legacy Scholarships and more. Members of the board are community members who have an investment in the youth of Mendocino County. Members meet once a month (by phone or in person) 10 months out of the year. We always need substitutes we can call when needed, and also have other volunteer opportunities. Plowshares Peace and Justice Center is also accepting applications for our Board of Directors. Humane Society for Inland Mendocino County:

Volunteers are being sought to socialize and groom dogs and cats; assist in fundraising events; write grants; help with mobile adoptions; work on shelter upkeep; aid in computer data entry; foster puppies and kittens, or nursing mom cats and dogs.
