UPD: Missing Ukiah man sought
Considered `at risk and possibly armed'
Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for a Ukiah man whose family reported him missing last week after observing him behaving oddly on Valentine's Day, the Ukiah Police Department reported.
According to the UPD, a family member of Angel Arturo Murguia-martinez, a 24-year-old resident of Ukiah, reported around 10 a.m. Feb. 15 that the man “had unexpectedly left his residence (in the 700 block of Village Circle) on foot the night before, and his whereabouts were not known.”
And while the family member described those actions as “unusual,” they told the UPD that “they did not consider Murguia-martinez missing or in danger at the time.” The UPD then issued a “countywide BOLO (Be on the Lookout) alert for Murguia-martinez.
Twelve hours later around 10:30 p.m., family members of Murguiamartinez contacted the UPD again to report that “they had discovered what they believed to be a suicide note that Murguia-martinez had left behind, and the family also believed that Murguia-martinez's firearm was not at his residence.”
The UPD adds that Murguiamartinez's family described him as not having “any history of mental health illnesses (or of showing) any signs of depression or wanting to harm himself.”
The UPD then initiated a search of the Ukiah area for Murguia-martinez, “and a cell phone `ping' was attempted on Murguia-martinez's wireless device. The cell phone `ping' yielded no location, and it was believed that Murguia-martinez's cell phone was turned off.”
According to the UPD, Murguia-martinez was then “entered into the national database as a Missing Person and the California Highway Patrol issued a Feather
Alert; an alert to provide immediate information to the public and aid in the swift recovery of Missing Indigenous Persons.”
The UPD describes Murguia-martinez's whereabouts as “currently unknown,” and requests “that anyone with information on him or his whereabouts call 911 immediately,” but not to “attempt to contact him or detain him in any manner, (as he) is to be considered at-risk and possibly armed.”
According to the Feather Alert issued by the CHP, Murguia-martinez is described as 5-8, 250 pounds with brown hair and green eyes, and is “believed to be wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes, gray hat and eyeglasses.”
