JOHN DAVID GOLDER 1953-2023
John Golder passed away suddenly on October 20, 2023, at his residence in Ukiah, Ca. He was 70 years old. John was born in San Diego, Ca. on June 27, 1953, to James Golder and Ann Weld Golder both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother Timothy W. Golder (Stephanie) of Millbrae, Ca., Aunt Jean and Uncle Dale Prill and Cousin Susan Prill of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and many friends and relatives in California and beyond.
John majored in computer science/engineering at UC Berkeley. Professionally, John worked his way up to Sr. Communications Tech for AT&T responsible for maintaining the company’s radio frequency communications infrastructure often having to travel in the middle of winter in freezing temperatures to maintain AT&T rural mountain radio stations in the middle of nowhere! Indeed, he was considered a hero for his radio communication abilities and earned the respect of all who worked alongside him during his career which spanned 38 years. A kind and independent spirit, John will always be remembered for entertaining his family and friends with his many adventures. John became a short-wave radio operator early on in his life and talked to people all over the world. He loved the mountains and hiked many trails in Petaluma and Ukiah where he resided into his retirement. Most of all, John will be remembered as “The Bird Man” who delighted many of his neighbors, friends, and relatives with the antics of his two parrots, Gordo and Buddy Bird who will miss him greatly.
A celebration of John’s life is planned for Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom. For more information, please send an email to golderjohn70@gmail.com. We welcome your comments and condolences.
