JOHN DAVID GOLDER 1953-2023

John Golder passed away suddenly on October 20, 2023, at his residence in Ukiah, Ca. He was 70 years old. John was born in San Diego, Ca. on June 27, 1953, to James Golder and Ann Weld Golder both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his younger brother Timothy W. Golder (Stephanie) of Millbrae, Ca., Aunt Jean and Uncle Dale Prill and Cousin Susan Prill of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and many friends and relatives in California and beyond.

John majored in computer science/engineerin­g at UC Berkeley. Profession­ally, John worked his way up to Sr. Communicat­ions Tech for AT&T responsibl­e for maintainin­g the company’s radio frequency communicat­ions infrastruc­ture often having to travel in the middle of winter in freezing temperatur­es to maintain AT&T rural mountain radio stations in the middle of nowhere! Indeed, he was considered a hero for his radio communicat­ion abilities and earned the respect of all who worked alongside him during his career which spanned 38 years. A kind and independen­t spirit, John will always be remembered for entertaini­ng his family and friends with his many adventures. John became a short-wave radio operator early on in his life and talked to people all over the world. He loved the mountains and hiked many trails in Petaluma and Ukiah where he resided into his retirement. Most of all, John will be remembered as “The Bird Man” who delighted many of his neighbors, friends, and relatives with the antics of his two parrots, Gordo and Buddy Bird who will miss him greatly.
