For Rogers

-

As someone who has served over 10 years on the Ukiah city council, including three stints as mayor, I believe I can recognize a high-quality candidate when I meet one. And I have met one in Chris Rogers, candidate for State Assembly.

A high-quality candidate, especially one running for state office in our large, rural district, must have a broad and deep understanding of our issues including: the Potter Valley Project and the importance of maintaining water diversion while ensuring the health of both the Eel and Russian River watersheds; the role of the underground cannabis economy, how legalization has altered our fortunes, and where we go from here; how poverty, substance use, mental illness, and homelessness conspire to keep a well-lived life out of reach for too many people while negatively affecting local businesses and the quality of life for the rest of us; the need for housing for people at all income levels; and the financial struggles our cities and county governments face with dwindling tax revenues and increasing unfunded mandates from the State.

I've spoken to Chris about these issues and more. He impresses me with his depth of knowledge, his commitment to our district—where he was born and raised; and his policy savvy and knowledge of government, based on his many years working for Congresswoman Woolsey and State Senator Mike Mcguire, who has also endorsed Chris.

We are fortunate to have such a qualified candidate to represent the us in the State Assembly. Please join me in voting for Chris Rogers on March 5.
