Loretta Vera Horn

known affectiona­tely as Vera to those closest to her, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, in Carmichael, CA. She was born on December 24, 1937, in Manchester, CA, to Esther Ward (born Pike) and Edgar Scarioni.

Vera dedicated her life to caring for others, both through her work and her loving presence in the lives of her family and friends. She worked in food service and also served the community at Calpella Elementary School, where her warm smile and kind demeanor brightened the days of countless children and colleagues.

As an enrolled member of the Manchester­point Arena Band of Pomo Indians, Vera took pride in her cultural heritage.

Vera’s greatest joy came from her family. She shared over 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Joe Horn, until his passing in 2019. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home in Calpella, where they hosted countless gatherings filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Vera will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her love of shopping, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She also had a special fondness for Elvis Presley!

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Horn, her daughter Melissa Horn, and her brother Michael Santana. She is survived by her son, Joe Richard Horn Jr., her daughter, Theresa Ann Horn, her granddaugh­ter, Esther Horn, her brother, Anthony Ward, her sister, Patricia Pike, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.

A funeral service to honor Vera’s life will be held on Friday, March 1, at Eversole Mortuary, 141 Low Gap Rd, Ukiah, CA 95482. The viewing will be from 9 am to 11 am, followed by the service at 11 am.

Vera’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
