Ukiah High School softball team, defending North Bay League Champs, continue their winning ways in the Redwood Division by taking a lopsided contest over the Santa Rosa Panthers 22- 4 on Thursday, April 11. The home game played under pleasant conditions saw Ukiah pitcher Kyla Cromer get out of a two runner two out jam with a crucial strikeout. The Wildcats rode that momentum tallying ten runs in the bottom of the first to essentially end the competitive side of the game.

The Wildcats hitting barrage was led by Freshman Scout Adams. Adams drove in five runs on two hits. Adams hit a grand slam to right field in the fourth. Another Wildcat stand out was Jaidyn Sanders who had a perfect day at the plate collecting three hits and scoring three runs. Other hitting heroes for the Wildcats were Makenzie Roberts scoring two runs and collecting a hit, Emma Bushby scoring two runs, Adyson Baarsch collecting a RBI, Adalei Jacobsen collecting a hit and three RBIs, Karis Jacobsen scoring a run, Tahtiana James gathering a hit and RBI, Kaloni Brown scoring four runs with a hit, Kyla Cromer, starting pitcher who recorded her second victory of season, helped herself with the bat by scoring a run and getting a RBI, and Mokee James collecting a hit and RBI.

Head Coach Riley Williams commented, “Starting pitcher Cromer and relief pitcher James both had good command of the strike zone.” Both pitchers combined to allow only three earned runs in the five inning shortened game because of the mercy rule. Coach Williams further explained, “Our young roster continues to improve and our goal is to get into North Bay League Redwood Division Playoffs with the highest seed possible.” The top four teams in the Redwood Softball Division qualify for the playoffs played in early May. The Wildcats, at the conclusion of this game, are tied for third with a 2-1 record. The Wildcats have three critical league games coming up, starting April 15 against Healdsburg, April 16 against Elsie Alan, and April 18 against first place St Vincent De Paul.
