Railtown 1897 State Park will offer holiday activities,
Railtown 1897 State Historic Park will offer socially distanced and outdoor holiday events for the local public between Thanksgiving and the week before Christmas, including hayrides, Santa selfies and hot cocoa.
A news release from the park on Wednesday said the outdoor events are “reimagined” in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, because the typical fare of train rides and passenger operations are banned in accordance with government guidelines.
The events offered this holiday season include hayrides on holiday-themed motorcar trailers, family selfies with Santa who will be socially distanced on the No. 7 caboose and shopping in a pop-up holiday car that can be filled up to 25 percent occupancy.
The car will be filled with holiday gift items and donated crafts, and there will also be a raffle for a holiday quilt.
To amp up the festivity of the scene, Railtown also will play holiday music from the deck of the historic roundhouse and offer cups of hot cocoa for purchase.
The events will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, through Saturday, Dec. 19. The Pop-up Holiday Shop will close at 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $7 per adult, $5 for youth ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and younger. The cost includes entrance to the park, a hayride and a family photo with Santa.
The events are intended for the “very local community” and not for people from out of the county.
Guests are asked to abide by social distancing rules and wear face coverings while on state park property. The outdoor grounds are open between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
