A Copperopolis man died early Sunday morning in a solo rollover traffic accident on Highway 120 west of Green Springs Road in Tuolumne County, the California Highway Patrol said.

William Reeves, 57, was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed and not wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the CHP said in a news release.

The CHP reported that Reeves was driving east on Highway 120 in a 2014 Buick sedan when he allowed it to travel over the north shoulder and partially onto the north dirt center median, where it crashed into a paddle marker.

Reeves lost control of the vehicle as it traveled to the southeast across the eastbound lane before colliding with an asphalt curb on the south shoulder, which caused it to flip over until it came to a rest on the grass and dirt shoulder, the release said.

He died at the scene from his injuries, according to the CHP.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected to have been a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
