- By ALEX MACLEAN

A 17-year-old student at Cassina High School in Sonora was arrested Friday on suspicion of threatening to commit a shooting on the campus, the Sonora Police Department announced in a news release that afternoon.

The release said the department was notified by school administrators at 12:24 p.m. Friday that a student had made threats against the school and other students.

An investigation led officers to develop probable cause and arrest the student, whose name and gender were not disclosed, on suspicion of felony criminal threats.

“The student’s motive for making the threats are not clear at this point, and we will not be releasing any specific details in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation,” the release said. “We would like to commend the quick actions of Cassina High staff as well as those who brought this concern forward.”

The news comes three days after the United States’ latest school shooting that resulted in mass casualties.

Ethan Crumbley, 15, is suspected of killing four of his classmates and injuring eight others Tuesday in a shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland

County, Michigan.

Crumbley has been charged as an adult with two dozens crimes, including murder, attempted murder and terrorism, while his parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were facing four counts of involuntary manslaughter and being sought by authorities Friday.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen Mcdonald said at a news conference on Friday that teachers had alerted school officials about Ethan Crumbley searching for ammunition on the Internet and drawing disturbing images with guns, including hours before the shooting, though he was allowed to return to the classroom.
