Steph Curry bears down on 3-point record

- By RON KROICHICK

Stephen Curry can see Ray Allen on the horizon.

Curry made seven 3-point shots Monday night, as the Warriors raced to a 126-95 victory over Orlando. That pushed Curry’s career total to 2,958, leaving him 15 from matching Allen’s NBA record of 2,973 (and obviously 16 from breaking it).

The Warriors play Portland at home Wednesday night before starting a five-game road trip Saturday night in Philadelphia. Worth noting: Klay Thompson holds the league record for most 3-pointers in a game (14), and Curry’s career high is 13.

Here’s a sampling of comments about Curry and the record after Monday night’s game:

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr: “I’m fully aware he’s 15 away. And I’m guessing he’s going to shoot a lot against Portland.”

Kerr on whether the record is attainable Wednesday night:

“Absolutely. He’s Steph Curry. Anything is possible.”

Curry: “I always just play the game. Obviously, I know I’m closing in, but you try not to let it creep into how you play. You just enjoy the journey to get

there. It does mean a lot to me.”

Curry on if it’s possible to catch Allen on Wednesday night: “Anything is possible. What is it, 15? That’s funny, because I know what that means with Klay’s (single-game) record and all that. So we will see.”

Curry on whether he will gun for Allen’s record against Portland: “If you’ve seen the way I’ve played, especially recently, I’m not shy about shooting the ball. The game will dictate what that looks like. I’m not coming out with that as a true goal of how I’ll play, but crazier things have happened.”

Nemanja Bjelica on Curry: “I heard a lot of stories about those two (Curry and Thompson) just shooting the ball. How they are professional and how they love the game of basketball. It is amazing. ... Steph works so hard on his game. I can learn good things from those guys.”

Curry on Allen’s recent comments praising his work ethic: “I just like the fact he complimented my golf game. Basketball is cool, but everybody talks about that. The fact I can beat him in golf, that’s even better.”

Curry on his desire to break

the record at home: “It is the weirdest thing being picky about breaking a record like that. I have thought about it. Obviously, it would be nice to have the home crowd and feel that energy. But I feel like it will be special no matter what.”

Curry on what it might be like to break the record on the road, given the support he often receives in opposing arenas: “I don't know. I kind of like the anticipation of what that could mean. ... I think any basketball fan will appreciate it when it happens, no matter where it is. History is kind of made. But I like the anticpation, being in the moment and enjoying all that has gone into it.”
