Coulterville man accused of sex crimes
A report of sexual abuse in the Groveland area Wednesday night led to the arrest of a Coulterville man on suspicion of felony sex crimes involving a drugged victim.
In a news release, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the report that night and took statements from the alleged victim and others upon their arrival at the scene.
Sheriff’s detectives took over the investigation from the deputies and interviewed the alleged suspect, whom the release identified as 44-year-old Jeremy Joe Michael.
Michael and the victim were known to each other prior to the alleged incident, the release said.
The release said detectives subsequently arrested Michael based on the information and evidence received before booking him into the Dambacher Detention Center in Sonora.
Booking logs show Michael, of the 6300 block of Scenic Drive, was charged with felony rape and sex penetration with a foreign object on a drugged victim.
Michael’s bail was set at $150,000, according to the booking logs. Online records showed he remained in custody at the jail as of Friday.
Deputy Niccoli Sandelin, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said no further information would be released at this time to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
