What to know about open burning

-

With the end of fire season, permits are no longer required for residents of Tuolumne and Calaveras counties to burn natural yard waste, such as leaves, pine needles, brush and tree trimmings.

Burning is only allowed on “permissive burn days” as determined by the local air pollution district in each county. Call (209) 754-6600 for burn-day information in Calaveras County, or (209) 533-5598 for the same in Tuolumne County. Pile burning requirements and guidelines include:

• Only dry, natural vegetative material may be burned.

• The burning of trash, painted wood, or other unnatural debris is not allowed.

• Don’t burn on windy days.

• Have a shovel and water source nearby.

• An adult must be in attendance at all times while burning.
