- Richard ‘Dick’ Mobley

Richard “Dick” Mobley passed away at his home in Greeley Hill on Dec. 8, 2021. His wife of 47 years, Sylvia Mobley, was by his side.

Dick was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvan­ia, in 1946 to parents Joseph and Beatrice Mobley. He is survived by Sylvia, along with his sister, Shirley James; nieces Barbara, Susan and Ruth; nephew, David; greatniece­s Jessi and Crystal; and great-great-niece Anna-claire, all of Biloxi, Mississipp­i.

Dick retired from the US Coast Guard in 1993 as Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman after 29 years of active duty. He then continued to serve for another seven years in Civil Service. During his time in the Coast Guard, he had many duty assignment­s including the USS Dependable, the Loran Station on Lampedusa, Italy, Headquarte­rs in Washington, D.C., and finally at MLC Pacific in Alameda, California.

Dick enjoyed hiking and fishing with his wife and served as a full-time volunteer deputy with the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office for nearly 20 years. Dick devoted his life to public service and will be remembered for his selfless devotion to family, country and community. Chapter of Eastern Star No. 3 in Vallejo and was a member of Sonora Elks Lodge No. 1587. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Kersthold, on Aug. 26, 2014, and her daughter, Susan Jane Rojas, on Nov. 5, 2020. She is survived by her daughter, Linda King, and her husband, Tom King, of Sonora; sons Ross Kersthold, and his wife Leanne, of Los Banos, and Mark Lewis, of Palm Springs; and her former husband’s daughter and her husband, Vicki and Larry Ohlmstead, of Spokane, Washington. She is also survived by grandchild­ren Casey Mainguth, and her husband Warren, Steven Carston, and his wife Jennifer, Shane Carston, Erin Sanderson, and her husband Brandon, Alexandra Kersthold, Tony Rojas, Susan’s husband and a number of great-grandchild­ren, all of whom made her heart sing.

Carol will be cremated and placed in the family plot in Los Banos, California. The Neptune Society is handling the cremation. If anyone feels the desire to do something in Carol’s name, please donate to the Elks National Foundation or an organizati­on of your choosing. We will raise a last glass to Carol on her birthday, Jan. 23, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sonora Elks Lodge. Please join us.
