Bobby Ray Munsel
1954 — 2021
Bobby Ray Munsel died the morning of Dec. 28, 2021, at his home after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, lying next to his wife and love, Susan.
Bobby was born in Sonora on Oct. 6, 1954, living his entire life in Tuolumne City. Growing up, he loved playing outside, riding bikes, playing ditch and just running around with his brother, sister, cousins and friends. He worked at the mill in Standard, then Sierra Conservation Center for 27 years, retiring in 2009. Bobby met Susan in 1980, and they were married Feb. 6, 1982. They were married almost 40 years.
Bobby loved life and being Cody and Jenna’s dad. Coaching his kids, while he played recreational softball, kept the family busy. Camping with family and friends was a regular vacation. Hunting and fishing were his passions. Out-ofstate hunting with his son and friends took months to plan. He fished in the local bass club and caught his biggest bass in 2021. He worked out at the local gym and golfed often with his friends. A simple ride, sitting by a fire, being with his children, having beer with a friend and family made him happy. He just couldn’t wait to watch his granddaughter’s sports and his grandson walking. Being their Geepa was so important to him. It is hard to imagine Bobby not being here to enjoy all the good things that will come next.
Bobby is survived by the love of his life, Susan Munsel; daughter, Jenna, her husband, Steven Anderson, their son Bobby Ray; son Cody Ray Munse, and his daughters Mckenzie and Rylee; brother Richard Munsel, and his wife, Debbie; sister Judy, and her husband, Jim Wilkinson; nieces and nephews Jayleen, Kelleen, Ashlee, Andrea, Krista, Cory, Briana and Alex; and brothers and sisters in-law, Rusty and Kim Ingraham, Steve Hannon, and Kathy Lewandowski.
The family gives a special thank you to Dr. Khelfa, Allysa, the amazing infusion center nurses and the entire staff of our Sonora Cancer Center.
A private burial will be at Carter’s Cemetery in Tuolumne. Bobby’s “Party” will be at noon on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Tuolumne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sonora Cancer Center Patient Support Fund, your favorite charity, or just take someone you love hunting or fishing.
