Ronnie Lee Hobbs

1946 — 2022

Lifelong Tuolumne County resident and retired county road department worker Ronnie Lee Hobbs died of pancreatic cancer on Jan. 5, 2022, in Sonora. He was 75.

Born in Sonora, Ronnie lived the past 42 years in Jamestown. He served in the U.S. Army from 19661968. He volunteered with Vietnam Veterans Chapter 391 and was named Legionnaire of the Year for the state of California 1999-2000. He was involved in various veterans groups and with the California Deer Association, as president. Volunteering was very important to him.

Ronnie also coached youth sports, loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his grandkids and greatgrandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling and watching sports.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patsy Hobbs, of Jamestown; his children and their spouses, Michele and Steve Speer, of Sonora, Darren and Michelle Hobbs, of La Pine, Oregon, and Christi and Gilbert Hammerbeck, of Jamestown; grandchildren Kurtis Hobbs, Anthony Hobbs, Samantha Schultz, Cassidy Knowles, Alexandra Hammerbeck, Shad Hammerbeck and Madison Hammerbeck; six greatgrandchildren; and his sister, Carolyn Ponder, of Sacramento.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay Hobbs and Dovie Hobbs; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert Ponder and Marline Ponder; and brother in-law, John Ponder.

A service for Ronnie with military honors will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 22, at Mountain Shadow Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Willow Springs Clubhouse.
