Republicans learned a lesson
To the Editor:
Many moons ago, I penned a letter to the UD under the headline “Save the Republican Party.” Frankly, I didn’t expect the party would follow advice from a guy like me, and they didn’t. Their lodestar had become the host of the show “The Apprentice,” Donald J. Trump.
Then, the recent midterm election gave many of us a surprise: The party, known as the GOP (both grand and old), apparently has learned a lesson. Or, more precisely, its voters did.
They, the party and its voters, seem to have realized that America is larger than the lure of MAGA; that raw power play has no place in a democratic republic, as our Founders had conceived the United States of America.
