Middle school runners take off
Tuolumne County held its annual elementary school cross country championships Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Wildcat Ranch in East Sonora. The race was 2 miles long, according to Paul Mcilroy, who serves as the sports coordinator for Tuolumne County elementary schools.
The race awarded medals to the top-three finishers in each of the six divisions of the race — both boys and girls.
The seventh-grade boys race was won by Landon Wilson, of Soulsbyville Elementary, in an impressive time of 11:39, beating the second-place finisher by more than two-and-a-half minutes. His time of 11:39 on the 2-mile course converts to a pace faster than 5:20 per-mile pace — an impressive clip.
