Longtime Sonora resident Leighton Garfield Evans passed away on Nov. 10, 2022.

For his profession, he was a CDC officer and served in the U.S. Air Force. Leighton was a member of the Harvest Fellowship Church and loved the Lord with all his heart.

He is survived by his spouse of 13 years, Lorna Evans. Leighton never had children of his own, but he was a loving and supportive bonus dad to Liz (Frank) Towler, of Sonora; Steve (Kym) Galvan of Merced; Melissa Galvan, of Wyoming; Bill (Jennifer) Galvan, of Utah; Phillip (Krysti) Tischman, of Louisiana; Brandi (Curtis) Fox, of Washington; Charles Tischman, of Sonora; Matthew (Arissa) Tischman, of Sonora; Raymond Galvan, as well as 22 grandchild­ren and numerous great-grandchild­ren. His sisters and brothers-inlaw, Dennis and Laurie Overholtze­r, of Sonora; Phyllis and Rod Brown, of Montana; Tina and Roger Platt, of Modesto; brother-in-laws Frank and Elizabeth Towler, of Sonora; and Chris Towler and Michelle, of Angels Camp. Leighton’s cousins Robin and Mike Sweet, Clay and Jeane Jones, and Jeff Jones and Carol who were as close as siblings to Leighton. Lifetime friends Stan and Martha Stayer, Bill and Colleen Hart.

He is preceded in death by Mike Galvan, motherin-law Molly Pratt, his parents, Orville and Frances Evans, uncle Lowell Jones and cousin Jeff Jones.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Carters Cemetery, 19042 Cemetery Lane, Tuolumne, CA 95379.
