Native American statue
To the Editor:
Thank you for that recent front page article on the replacement in Sacramento of a statue of Junipero Serra with one of an indigenous leader. Wouldn’t it be great if such a statue could be erected in Tuolumne County?
I’m not a Tuolumne County native, but it looks like the only use of an indigenous name in the county is Mi-wuk Village, which was named by a real-estate developer and promoter. Apart from, of course, the many health facilities which they sponsor, but are open to all.
And “Tuolumne” is itself a corruption of a Native American name.
