Masked and merry
The Vasilica Masquerade Celebration kicks off 2014 with a traditional Macedonian fete.
1. David Kane, left, dressed as Batman, and Glenn Daigon, costumed as Napoleon, obliged the request for festive attire at the Vasilica Masquerade Celebration, held Jan. 18 at the Macedonian Embassy in Washington. Vasilica is a Macedonian holiday that commemorates New Year’s Day and Saint Basil’s feast day. 2. International Professionals Group (IPG) New York representative Vera Arsova, center, sings and leads partygoers in a traditional dance.
3. Tango partners Francisco Reyes and Kerri Norris bring an old-glamour vibe to the festivities. 4. From left, George Washington University Law School students Kara Thomas, Jameyson Price and Kathryn Sadasivan laugh as they watch dancers.
5. Synchronized kick lines were the move de rigueur. 6. After making a wish, Julia Krylova inspects the coin she found in her Christmas bread. 7. IPG events director Radell Peischler, chief executive and president S. Kumar and events manager Erin VanGorder show off their masquerade masks. 8. Omar Malik and Rebecca Bertram enjoy Macedonian cuisine.
