Afghanistan war deaths

To­tal num­ber of U.S. mil­i­tary deaths since 2001 and names of the U.S. troops killed re­cently in the Afghanistan war, as an­nounced by the Pen­tagon:



(1,892 in hos­tile ac­tions; 522 in non­hos­tile ac­tions)

The lat­est deaths:

Sgt. Jason Mitchell McClary, 24, of Ex­port, Pa.; 1st Bat­tal­ion, 38th In­fantry Reg­i­ment, 1st Stryker Bri­gade Com­bat Team, 4th In­fantry Di­vi­sion, based at Fort Car­son, Colo. Died Dec. 2 at Land­stuhl Regional Med­i­cal Cen­ter, Ger­many, of in­juries suf­fered Nov. 27 in Ghazni prov­ince.

Pfc. Joshua Mikeasky, 19, of John­stown, Pa.; 4th Bat­tal­ion, 31st In­fantry Reg­i­ment, 2nd Bri­gade Com­bat Team, 10th Moun­tain Di­vi­sion, based at Fort Drum, N.Y. Died Dec. 13 at Ba­gram air base of a non­com­bat cause.

All troops were killed in ac­tion in Afghanistan un­less oth­er­wise in­di­cated.

To­tal fa­tal­i­ties in­clude six civil­ian em­ploy­ees of the De­fense De­part­ment. They also in­clude ser­vice mem­bers killed in other lo­ca­tions in­volved in Op­er­a­tion En­dur­ing Free­dom, in­clud­ing Guan­tanamo Bay, Cuba; Dji­bouti; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Jor­dan; Kenya; Kyr­gyzs­tan; Pak­istan; Philip­pines; Sey­chelles; Su­dan; Ta­jik­istan; Turkey; Uzbek­istan; and Ye­men.
