A brave new season

-

Shared space. Safe space. How fraught these terms are now. ¶ Then there’s the ongoing challenge of indoor space, especially as the arts plan a careful return to theaters, concert halls and galleries. With uncertainty already playing a role in the season’s offerings, our preview of what’s to come is as much wish list as A-list. Whether we’re talking about the metaphysical energy of R&B singer Tinashe at the 9:30 Club; the life-affirming moves inspired by collegiate dance lines at Dance Place; or a major, two-city collaborative retrospective on Jasper Johns, our fingers are crossed that the calendar holds. ¶ The arts, after all, are one of the few things we have left that bring us together for a common experience, for fellowship and conversation. So here’s hoping that the shared space will be a safe space, this fall and for seasons to come. ¶ (Speaking of safety: Before attending any show, please check presenter websites for mask and vaccination guidelines or other covid-related restrictions.)
