Call In the State Police
The June 16 editorial “Facts, Please” did not mention why the Prince George’s County Police Department might be reluctant to release information about the May 30 Beltway crash. Let me suggest one possible reason: Perhaps Prince George’s police officials are looking at this matter not as investigators but as defendants.
The outcome of the investigation could have a substantial impact on the liability of the county and the police. At a minimum, the police have an appearance of conflict of interest. The public would be best served by a disinterested party, such as the Maryland State Police, leading this investigation. CARL EICHENWALD
