Man Ordered to Remove Ladder
A D.C. Superior Court judge ordered a Logan Circle man yesterday to remove a ladder attached to his house. Police have said they think burglars have been using the ladder to climb onto roofs and break into homes through skylights.
The judge also signed a search and seizure warrant for officers to take the ladder to use as evidence in the burglaries on Vermont Avenue NW, D.C. police Lt. Michael Smith said.
Neighbors and officers were at odds with the homeowner, Nathaniel Rabinowitz, who said he chained the ladder to his house in the 1700 block of Vermont Avenue so he could feed birds. Neighbors had been asking him to take it down for six years, but he said that it was on his property and that he had the right to keep it against his house.
