A Stim­u­lus for China?

Would giv­ing con­sumers $150 bil­lion to spend re­ally cre­ate an eco­nomic stim­u­lus when most of it would be spent on prod­ucts made abroad? Even al­low­ing for re­tail­ers’ prof­its and wages, wouldn’t more than 50 per­cent of the cash go over­seas? It’s an in­ef­fec­tive way to goose the econ­omy — and ir­re­spon­si­ble, given that this would be es­sen­tially bor­rowed money that our grand­chil­dren will have to re­pay to China. TIM WARD
