June 9 Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival
Every year, thousands flock to the normally sleepy Kingman Island to take in more than eight hours of bluegrass and folk performances on several stages, with the park’s wild green space as a backdrop. Food and drink will be available, and concertgoers can take a break from the music with outdoor activities such as kayaking or boat tours. Kids and leashed dogs are welcome (and so are rain boots in the case of rain and mud). Noon to 8 p.m. Kingman Island, on the banks of the Anacostia: 575 Oklahoma Ave. NE. kingmanislandbluegrass.info. General admission: in advance, $35; at the door, $45.
