Honoring those lost to covid

-

Part of the National Mall is being blanketed with more than 630,000 white flags, each representing an American who died of covid-19. The installation near the Washington Monument was put together by local artist Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg and is meant to illustrate the magnitude of the nation’s loss. “I felt morally obligated to honor all those deaths,” she previously told The Washington Post. She put together a similar installation in October, outside RFK Stadium, to mark what was still an enormous toll: more than 267,000 dead of covid. The installation on the Mall can be visited through Oct. 3.
