The risks of breath-holding


The July 26 Health article “They saved their dad using CPR they saw in movie scenes” was good, but it needed a strong caution.

There is a serious need to highlight the dangers of holding your breath underwater. One of my Midwestern high school classmates died that way in 1961, a year before he should have graduated. It was an underwater breath-holding contest — and his friends just forgot about him.
