Man killed in Washington Highlands
A man was fatally shot Friday afternoon in the Washington Highlands area of Southeast — the fourth person to be killed in that area in three days — according to D.C. police.
In addition, a serious shooting was reported about 9 p.m. in the 4400 block of Alabama Avenue SE. A man was unconscious and not breathing after being shot, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. A woman was wounded in that incident.
Within half an hour of the Alabama Avenue shooting, four other people were wounded Friday night in two other double shootings, one on Darrington Street SW and one on Rhode Island Avenue NE, according to Carew. Darrington is about a mile and a half from Washington Highlands. The other sites were farther away.
The Friday afternoon shooting occurred shortly before 3:10 p.m. in the 3900 block of Wheeler Road SE, near Valley Avenue.
Other fatal shootings in that area this week occurred on Wednesday and Thursday. No connection has been determined but police are investigating.
