Police say a murder mystery is solved
For 51 years, the fatal shooting of Montgomery County Special Deputy Sheriff James Tappen Hall went unsolved. Now, investigators say they have cracked the case and have a suspect in custody.
Hall was shot Oct. 23, 1971, at Manor Country Club on Carrolton Road in the Rockville area, where he held a part-time security job. He died in a hospital three days later.
Investigators think Hall interrupted a nearby residential burglary in progress. They arrested a suspect last week.
Officials did not release any additional details Tuesday and said they will do so at a news conference Wednesday.
