Jordan McNair, a member of the University of Maryland football team, died Wednesday.

McNair was hospitalized after an organized team workout on May 29.

McNair was a rising sophomore at the university. And after making his collegiate debut against Towson last year, he took a redshirt year.

An offensive lineman recruited from McDonogh School in the Baltimore area, McNair was a three-star recruit in 2017 out of Randallstown, Maryland.

Executive athletic director Damon Evans said in a statement that counseling services are available to the players and staff.

“Our thoughts and support continue to be with his family as they grieve the loss of this outstanding young man,” Evans wrote.

The school did not give a cause of death.
