Democrats flee snow-bound D.C. for Puerto Rico fundraiser

A two-week run of spe­cial per­for­mances of “Hamil­ton,” with Lin-Manuel Mi­randa repris­ing his lead role, is ex­pected to draw thou­sands of ador­ing fans, stars and politi­cians — in­clud­ing a jun­ket of Democrats from the na­tion’s snow­bound cap­i­tal.

The per­for­mances are ex­pected to raise mil­lions of dol­lars for artists and cul­tural groups strug­gling in the wake of Hur­ri­cane Maria.

Open­ing night on Fri­day drew more than 1,000 peo­ple who bought tick­ets rang­ing from $10 to $5,000.

On hand for the fes­tiv­i­ties are some 30 Demo­cratic mem­bers of Congress, ac­cord­ing to The Washington Ex­am­iner’s Paul Bedard.
