Amendment not free-ride ticket

The Washington Times Weekly - - Letters To The Editor - STEPHEN MOUNGELIS Mt. Airy, Maryland

Does anyone with any common sense believe that the birthright clause in the 14th Amendment was intended to give illegal aliens a free ticket to citizenship? This is an abuse of the legislation and President Trump should be supported in his decision to put an end to it.

Illegal entry into this nation is a crime no matter the reason. There are numerous legal ways to gain access and true citizenship is available for any qualified alien. We are a nation of immigrants and the last time I looked, our ancestors all did it legally, through a process.

We need to take a moment to recognize how we all got here. We should also salute all immigrants who earned a right to their citizenship, because it is a proud moment for them all. We also need to end the rubber-stamp system currently in place which allows illegal aliens to roam free on our soil.

Any true immigration legislation has to address these concerns, including how to deal with the illegals already in our country. Any mission statement has to begin with knowing how they gained entry in the first place.

National security requires border security and it has to be included in any legislation.
