Burger chain begs Amazon: Buy us
Fast-food chain Carl’s Jr. is “trying to seduce Amazon one tweet at a time,” said Charisse Jones and Zlati Meyer in USA Today. The burger chain this week publicly begged the e-commerce giant to acquire it in a series of tweets with the hashtag #AmazonBuyUs. One message read “HEY @Amazon BUY US. Srsly. For real. Let’s do this. Let’s change the future of eating!! #AmazonBuyUs.” Part tongue-in-cheek promotion, the wooing campaign involved Carl’s Jr. sending “billion-dollar” ideas once an hour for 24 hours to Amazon’s official Twitter account. The pitches included an “Eater Reader,” a food tray that can also hold Amazon’s Kindle tablet, and “Prime Thru,” an express drive-through lane just for Amazon’s fee-paying Prime subscribers. “This is about generating a conversation around a partnership,” said Carl’s Jr. chief marketing officer Jeff Jenkins, who added that they hope to “have a lot of fun with it.”
