Better Call Saul

In more ways than one, Better Call Saul is getting closer to Breaking Bad. Most obviously, the story’s time line is nearing the moment when Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill, an ambulance-chasing Albuquerque lawyer, fully embraces his alternate identity as Saul Goodman, adviser to Walter White and linchpin of the city’s illegal drug trade. As Jimmy internalizes all that he lost in the fire that ended Season 3, he also turns increasingly to his future fixer, ex-cop Mike Ehrmantraut. It’s also getting harder to regard Better Call Saul as the lighter spin-off. This is simply great television drama. Monday, Aug. 6, 9 p.m., AMC
