The spirits world is suddenly rich with strange, wonderful newcomers, said John deBary in Bloomberg.com. In the past year or so, “there have been innovations in almost every type of booze,” and these “delicious, weird” bottles are three of our favorites.

($30/750ml). Made from dairy whey, this “super lush” vodka from England is more than a curiosity.

It’s “legitimately great.”

($65/500ml). Three barleys are fermented with a koji mold to produce this Danish spirit. It’s “wild stuff”—“mindbending” in its complexity and “extremely rewarding.”

($28/750ml). Suntory adds yuzu, sansho pepper, and other Japanese botanicals to a classic gin base to create a “bright, tasty” spirit that “just might give London dry gins a run for their money.”
