Spirits: Three trailblaze­rs

The spirits world is suddenly rich with strange, wonderful newcomers, said John deBary in Bloomberg.com. In the past year or so, “there have been innovation­s in almost every type of booze,” and these “delicious, weird” bottles are three of our favorites.

($30/750ml). Made from dairy whey, this “super lush” vodka from England is more than a curiosity.

It’s “legitimate­ly great.”

($65/500ml). Three barleys are fermented with a koji mold to produce this Danish spirit. It’s “wild stuff”—“mindbendin­g” in its complexity and “extremely rewarding.”

($28/750ml). Suntory adds yuzu, sansho pepper, and other Japanese botanicals to a classic gin base to create a “bright, tasty” spirit that “just might give London dry gins a run for their money.”
