Can we put a bug in your ear?

Don’t like Apple’s AirPods? How about earbuds that look like giant Mentos? asked Marie Baca in The Washington Post. Apple’s rivals aren’t having much success making earbuds that can match the sleek wireless devices that Apple designed to “sit comfortably but unobtrusively in the ear.” Microsoft’s latest effort, the Surface Earbuds, are “flat white disks” about the size of a quarter. Unfortunately, they’ve been variously described “as refrigerator magnets,” mint candies, and devices that make you “look like you’ve been tagged as part of an animal migration experiment.” Meanwhile, Amazon’s black Echo Buds “resemble round earplugs.” Apple commands 53 percent of the earbud market and is on pace to sell 60 million AirPods this year at $159 a pair. Competitors will have to keep trying, “until they can come up with something that looks less ridiculous.”
