Virus effects linger: Doctors in Italy are discovering that many patients who have technically recovered from Covid-19 continue to grapple with debilitating symptoms for weeks or even months. Some have permanent kidney damage. Others feel as if their bones are broken, and can’t climb stairs without gasping for breath. Alessandro Venturi, director of San Matteo hospital in Pavia, told The New York Times that even some patients who had relatively mild cases haven’t yet shaken off the fatigue, aches, and upset stomach. “It leaves something inside you,” said Albertina Bonetti, a 77-year-old from near Bergamo. “And you never go back the way you were before.”
