Market: Stocks surprise with stellar quarter

-

The stock market just wrapped up its best quarter in two decades, said Michael Wursthorn in The Wall Street Journal. Despite persistent concerns about the economic devastation caused by the coronavirus, the S&P 500 finished the second quarter up 20 percent, “its biggest percentage gain since the last three months of 1998.” The Dow Jones finished up 18 percent, notching its best quarter since 1987. The indexes remain down for the year because of the sudden plunge in March, but “the subsequent rebound has been nearly as brisk.” Tech stocks have risen even faster, with the Nasdaq index up 31 percent for the quarter.
