Lockdown protest: Honking car horns and waving flags, tens of thousands of Argentines rallied this week against an extension of the coronavirus lockdown in Buenos Aires. The national lockdown, imposed in March, was recently eased in rural areas but remains in place in the capital, where the virus is surging. Argentina has seen some 300,000 Covid-19 cases and is adding about 5,000 new infections a day. Protesters also complained that the government of President Alberto Fernández is exploiting the crisis for political gain, seeking to ram through a judicial reform bill they say is intended to shield Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, a former president under investigation for corruption. The government dismissed the protest, saying it had been instigated by the right-wing opposition.
