Super-spreader event: Coronaviru­s cases connected to the massive Sturgis motorcycle rally mounted this week as health officials in eight states worked furiously to contain potential outbreaks. Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota,

South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming all confirmed infections linked to the rally. The total stands at more than 100, and Kris Ehresmann, the infectious disease director at the Minnesota Department of Health, said she expected “many more” in the wake of the 10-day event. Analysis of cellphone data from patrons revealed that 61 percent of U.S. counties saw at least one person return from Sturgis, where dense, crowds milled together at bars and concerts. “I sat at a bar elbow-to-elbow with guys,” said Stephen Sample from Arizona. “No one was wearing masks.”
