Trump virus ‘expert’ used by Russians
White House coronavirus adviser Dr. Scott Atlas apologized this week after giving an interview to a Russian state– sponsored news organization long known for spreading conspiracy theories. During the half-hour interview with the RT network—originally known as Russia Today—Atlas, who has called for letting the coronavirus spread naturally to achieve “herd immunity,” claimed that coronavirus restrictions are “killing people.” He later said he was unaware that RT is registered as a foreign agent and considered by U.S. intelligence agencies to be a propaganda arm of the Russian government. The network was created by Russian President Vladimir Putin and notoriously peddled the conspiracy theory in 2009 that H1N1 “swine flu” was bioengineered by the U.S. military.
