Kenosha, Wis.
Return for trial: A Wisconsin court set bail for Kyle Rittenhouse at $2 million this week, after the 17-year-old was extradited from Illinois following an almost two-month stint in a Lake County, Ill., jail. Rittenhouse is charged with fatally shooting two men and injuring a third during violent protests that rocked Kenosha after the police shooting of a 29-year-old black man, Jacob Blake. Afterward, Rittenhouse fled to his home in Antioch, Ill., and tearfully turned himself in to police on Aug. 26, saying he’d been “hired to protect businesses in Kenosha during the riots and had to protect himself.” Rittenhouse has been defended by conservatives, including President Trump, who have said his actions were justified. The father of Anthony Huber, one of the men killed by Rittenhouse, said at the bail hearing that Rittenhouse “thinks he’s above the law and he’s been treated as such by law enforcement.”
