UAE to get $23 billion in advanced weapons

-

The Trump administration has informed Congress that it intends to sell almost $23 billion in advanced military hardware to the United Arab Emirates, two months after the oil-rich Persian Gulf nation formally recognized Israel. In notices to Senate and House lawmakers this week, the State Department said it would sell 18 armed MQ-9B drones, $10 billion in ordnance, and 50 stealth F-35 jets. The Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs committees must approve the sales, despite earlier criticism that members have leveled against the American role in supplying the UAE’s ongoing air campaign in Yemen. Monitoring groups have warned the strikes have killed some 12,000 civilians, and the U.N. says 10 million in the country are “one step away from famine.”
