Child dies of Covid-19: A 5-year-old girl died of the coronavirus after being sent home by an emergency room physician who told her parents that she “would be fine” and that the virus “doesn’t affect kids.” NBC News reported last week that Tagan, daughter of Lastassija White and Quincy Drone, first developed symptoms— extreme fatigue and vomiting—the week before. She did not cough or develop fever, the symptoms often associated with Covid-19. Her parents said she continued to weaken after returning from the ER until—about 15 hours after her visit—she could no longer breathe. “This doctor told us that our child would be fine, and our child didn’t even make it 24 hours,” said Drone. White added of her daughter, “She loved to learn.” The week Tagan died, 61,000plus children tested positive for Covid-19 in America—the highest weekly total on record, although deaths from the coronavirus among children remain rare.
