Bitcoin: Currency exchange Coinbase goes public
The digital currency exchange Coinbase went public this week, attaining an “eye-popping valuation of nearly $100 billion in its stock market debut,” said Paul Vigna in The Wall Street Journal. Valued at just $8 billion in a private financing in 2018, Coinbase’s worth has skyrocketed amid the Bitcoin frenzy; in addition to Bitcoin, Coinbase also lists about 50 other digital currencies. The stock market entry immediately puts Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong, “an early enthusiast of Bitcoin,” among the world’s 100 richest people.
