Facebook plans Substack clone
Facebook’s version of a subscription newsletter will have fewer hot takes, said Peter Kafka in Vox.com. Bulletin, which the social media giant is aiming to launch at the end of June, is essentially a knockoff of the popular Substack model: Convince readers to subscribe for “a regular stream of content” from popular writers in their inboxes. But there is one clear difference—the writers. While Substack is “often associated with bomb throwers,” Bulletin is “deliberately trying to avoid political writers and subjects.” Its first writers will be covering sports, fashion, and the environment, as well as local news. Facebook’s pitch to content creators is that it has a unique “ability to target and segment” potential subscribers among its 2.85 bullion users.
